Make room for guests quickly, easily and without breaking the bank over this festive period! We've got budget-friendly ideas & solutions - from sofa beds to extending dining tables, extra surface space and seating.
It's lovely to be able to have friends and family stay with us during the festive period and New Year! But, it can get a bit frantic trying to prepare for guests, make sure everyone's got someone where to sit and somewhere to sleep! So, we've pulled together this handy Budget-Friendly Hosting Guests Guide. We've included furniture ideas and some little touches to avoid the 'Nan's got to sit on a box for dinner' and 'living room full of sleeping bags' chaos.
So people are coming to stay for longer than just the day? Where are they going to sleep?
If you have a spare room, but it's not got a bed (or the bed in there is old, knackered and a bit saggy), have no fear! We've got an awesome range of stylish, good-looking beds perfect for your guest bedroom, all at great prices. We also sell mattresses on their own, too!
Our Azure modern solid pine beds in white or grey are a Scandi-inspired dream that can be put together quickly. With next-working-day delivery available, you can have your guest bedroom spruced up in no time. Complete the room's look with a couple of our Alma bedside tables and lamps, and you're good to go.
Another great way to add extra sleeping space is to go for a sofa-bed. Great for living rooms, or for spare rooms that you want to keep clear most of the time for other uses.
We've got a great selection of budget-friendly sofabeds ready to be delivered next day that will set you and your guests up with somewhere to veg out after the Big Dinner and somewhere to sleep!

If your spare room doubles as your home office, but you don't want your guests to feel like they're shoved into a corner, consider some strategic furniture choices. Sectioning off the office area with a screen, some shelving or even an accent chair will help the room feel like it has multiple uses. Opting for a narrower desk coupled with a sofabed that can be folded out only when needed can help maximise space, too.
Our moodboard here features our new Windsor brown wooden desk with storage shelf (which will also help keep things tidy if you've got guests staying in the room). Out Halle fabric chair makes for a great office chair that doesn't take up too much space. We're positioned one of out Siena minimalist shelving units to act as a partition screen, with the Remi sofabed beyond.
Got more people than usual eating with you? We got you.
Extending dining tables are a space-saving and dining solution perfect for Christmas. No one likes to squeeze around a table that’s not quite big enough, bashing elbows while trying to carve the turkey. We have a range of gorgeous extendable dining tables that will grow to accommodate more guests as you need and then shrink back down to a smaller space-saving option when things quieten down.
All our dining table sets are next-day delivery too!
In fact, we've got a whole separate blog featuring all of our extendable dining tables, so check that out! But for now, here's our popular Enna white glass and chrome extending dining table.
We sell all of our luxury dining chairs in sets of 2 (of course, you can buy multiple sets of 2!). Our best-selling Milans also come in sets of 4 and 6. So, you can pick up a couple of extra chairs to match the ones you've already got or get a whole set of new chairs. Whether you're looking for stylish faux leather or on-trend velvet, traditional tall-back or modern Scandi-inspired dining chairs, we got the extra dining chairs you need.

Our gorgeous velvet-topped Cambridge bench seats can help fit a few more people around the table. These work especially well for smaller kids. And, when not needed for dining, they look fantastic as accent seating in bedrooms at the foot of beds, or hallways!
Other ways to maximise space when you're entertaining.
Console tables make for handy additional surface space. Use a console table for a condiments and gravy station, setting out veg platters, or a little pop-up bar for your drinks! We've got a huge selection of console tables in glass, metal, high gloss, marble and concrete effect tops, so there's something to suit all home styles.

Our large coffee tables could make for a relaxed informal temporary dining space for kids! Get them to tuck in while sat on the floor on cushions.

Make the most of your outside space and extend your living space outdoors! If you've got the room outdoors, or a conservatory, use it for entertaining. Garden furniture + cosy blankets, Christmas lights and a fire pit or patio heaters = one cosy alfresco Christmas entertaining area.
Make sure you've got enough towels, enough extra bedding, and extra crockery and cutlery. This will help create a streamlined visit that's all been planned to perfection!
Extending dining tables can be an absolute game changer when it comes to maximising space to host guests. We're rapidly approaching the time of year when lots of us have family and friends arrive - sometimes unexpectedly - and having room for everyone is key [Read more...]
