As we step into the new year, it's time to refresh our spaces with the latest interior design. New Year, new home style? On it. From rich and bold colours to sustainable choices, this year is all about making a statement while staying mindful of our environment.
Happy New Year, folks! I don’t know about you, but I am still working my way through the mountain of cheese we thought it’d be a good idea to buy for Christmas. But, a new year means tons of new home décor trends to be inspired by! I sat down with the Furniturebox Product Design team to get a feel for what’s moving and shaking in the interiors world. They told me all about trending colours (don’t worry – there’ll be a separate blog on that soon) and design. 2025 looks set to be a year where we embrace rich and earthy tones, combine textures and patterns and embrace eco-design that blurs indoor and outdoor living as we lean further into maximalism and individualism.
The big takeaway? There’s no one size fits all for home trends this year, and I am here for it.
Here are some of the top trends I think you lot will be loving. Grab a coffee and get comfy, ‘cause this is a chunky blog jammed full on inspiration to kick off the new year.
Say goodbye to muted tones and hello to sumptuous hues! I’m definitely seeing colours stepping more firmly into the darker, bolder and moodier palettes this year. Think suede browns, deep emerald greens, dusky blues, striking rich burgundies and oxblood reds. These colours can be used to create focal points in your rooms, whether it's a feature wall, a statement piece of furniture, or even bold accessories. Don't be afraid to mix and match – the bolder, the better!

Texture and pattern are key to adding depth and interest to your interiors. From plush velvets and chunky knits to intricate patterns and geometric designs, layering different textures and patterns can transform a space from flat to fabulous. Consider textured wallpapers, patterned rugs, and tactile cushions to bring this trend to life.

Curves are here to stay as a great way to soften the edges of your interiors. This trend embraces rounded furniture, arched doorways, and circular décor elements. Curved sofas, round coffee tables, and even circular mirrors can add a touch of elegance and fluidity to your space. It's all about creating a harmonious and inviting environment.

Bringing the outdoors in is a trend that continues to gain momentum. This year, I’m seeing a seamless blend of indoor and outdoor spaces. Large windows, indoor plants, and natural materials like wood and stone help create a connection with nature. Consider adding a cosy outdoor seating area that feels like an extension of your living room, or bringing some outdoor furniture into your conservatory, sun room or kitchen for a relaxed feel.

Colour drenching was another buzzword that started making waves last year. This is all about committing to a single colour and using it throughout a room. This monochromatic approach can make a bold statement and create a cohesive look. Whether you choose a calming shade of blue or a vibrant yellow, drenching your space in one colour can be both dramatic and sophisticated.

Sustainability is not just a trend; it's a lifestyle choice. This year, there’s a strong focus on eco-friendly materials and sustainable practices. From recycled furniture to energy-efficient lighting, there are many ways to make your home more sustainable. Look for pieces made from reclaimed wood, organic fabrics, and low-VOC paints to reduce your environmental footprint.

In December 2024, Pinterest unveiled its predictions for 2025, showing what search terms have seen a big uptick as a predictor for big trends this year. I’m definitely seeing a strong correlation between the Pinterest data and what our own product designers have spoken about above (good to know we’re getting it right at our end!). Here are my favourite Pinterest Predicts picks to give you some more juicy insider style inspo:
Embrace the future of eco-living with Terra Futura. This trend focuses on sustainable living that seamlessly blends indoor and outdoor spaces. Think solarpunk aesthetics, self-sufficient gardens, and natural materials like wood and stone. Large windows, indoor plants, and eco-friendly furniture will help you create a harmonious connection with nature.
Get ready to see a lot of cherry red and burgundy in 2025. These bold colours are perfect for making a statement. Whether it's a cherry red accent wall or burgundy upholstery, these hues add a touch of drama and sophistication to any room. Pair them with neutral tones to balance the intensity.
Dive into the depths of the ocean with nautical and sea witch-inspired interiors. This trend brings the mystery and magic of the sea into your home. Think deep blues, sea greens, and marine motifs. Incorporate elements like driftwood, shells, and nautical ropes to create a coastal vibe. This trend also extends to fashion and beauty, with ocean-inspired colours and accessories.
The Rococo Renaissance is all about opulence and elegance. This trend features asymmetrical designs, pastel colours, and ornate details. Think Bridgerton meets Versailles - ruffled throws, floral wallpapers, and vintage-inspired mirrors. It's a celebration of all things lavish and feminine, perfect for adding a touch of glamour to your space.

Gaming rooms are getting a stylish upgrade in 2025. The focus is on creating cool and cosy spaces where you can relax and play. Think comfortable seating, ambient lighting, and plenty of storage for your gaming gear. Add personal touches like posters, collectibles, and themed décor to make the space truly your own.

Mixing and matching different styles, colours, and patterns is a trend that's here to stay. Bold mix & match interiors are all about expressing your personality and creativity. Combine vintage and modern pieces, play with contrasting colours, and don't be afraid to experiment. Wall murals are also making a comeback, adding a unique and artistic touch to your interiors.

These trends are all about expressing your personality and creating spaces that are both stylish and sustainable. So, which trend are you excited to try in your home this year?
