As some of you might remember, Furniturebox UK has worked with Field Lane before. They're a national charity that offers a combination of care, accommodation, and support for adults with learning disabilities. The incredible work they do is very close to our hearts, so we’re always happy to help them however we can. We are thrilled to announce that Furniturebox UK has committed to covering the start-up costs for employing a full-time Special Educational Needs teacher!
The on-going Coronavirus crisis has devastated all of us, especially our more vulnerable members of society. Many of Field Lane's clients have had their vital education and life-skills development interrupted by the lockdowns. Those that usually attend colleges or day centres haven't been able to.
Field Lane is dedicated to providing the best for its clients. Employing an SEN teacher will let these educational services still reach those who really benefit from them. This teacher will lead educational activities and therapeutic sessions, so they'll work across all eight of Field Lane's Surrey projects. That's around 50 clients.
Furniturebox UK is covering the start-up costs for hiring a specialist teacher over the next 2 years because we know the service, care and development opportunities this offers for their clients will be huge.
Our founders Montague George and Dan Beckles support Field Lane because they've already seen for themselves the positive impacts the charity has on so many lives.
“We started our business at the age of 18, and know how hard it can be to get a head start in life. It really makes us appreciate the work Field Lane does to support vulnerable people. Field Lane's work helps people tackle some big challenges and enable them to live more stable, independent lives. Field Lane quite literally changes lives. Being able to be a part of such a wonderful charity is an honour.”Dan Beckles, Furniturebox UK Founder, 2021
This is the first time that Field Lane has employed a qualified SEN teacher, and we're delighted to help make this happen. It will bring huge benefits to their clients; many of them find it very difficult to cope with what has become ‘the new normal’ for many of us.
A modern charity with roots, Field Lane has been caring for people since 1841. They provide care and support for a diverse range of service users. This includes Primarily based in London and the southeast, they have supported-living projects in Essex, Surrey, and Sussex, with a residential centre for vulnerable families in southwest London. Find out more about them here. They also did a great Q & A session with our founders, Monty and Dan, about why all this is so important to us.
Furniturebox follows in the footsteps of other well-known supporters. Charles Dickens visited in 1843 and it inspired him to write ‘A Christmas Carol’!
