Make your dinner guests jealous of your dining room with these modern dining room ideas. Get an ultra-contemporary look for your dining space with these design ideas from furniture choices to decorating tips.
One of the simplest way to achieve a modern, contemporary dining room design is by using white as your main colour for the walls and even the furniture. White is clean, bright and will open up the space. Plus, it never really goes out of fashion. You can easily (and cheaply) update the space by adding pops of colour, like the yellow accessories, or by changing the chair colours.
Here's another use of the white look taken a bit further with this high gloss dining table and white dining chairs and walls. The subtle use of teal accessories breaks up the white and the use of a grey feature wall beautifully frames the window which is allowing lots of light into the room. The use of plants adds a touch of nature and breaks up the contemporary look so that it's not overwhelming.
Contemporary dining room design doesn't have to mean everything all-white. Take his example of a deep navy feature wall set against the white accessories and the yellow accent chairs for example. Yellow and navy are contrasting colours (almost opposite on a colour-wheel) and are very happy to be paired up, no wonder then that this colour combination is bang on trend right now. The elegant glass top dining table with feature criss-cross chrome legs is a subtle dining table choice which compliments the statement pieces in the room. Glass and chrome dining tables are a great way to create the illusion of space and light so that even the largest dining tables don't appear to take up too much space. As a general rule, the more floor you can see, the bigger the space feels.
Mix up the textures and materials in your dining room for a contemporary design which is also warm and inviting. The teal velvet of these chairs adds softness to the room contrasted against the gold legs and the sheer textures of the glass dining table top and chrome dining legs.
Here Chloe has accessorised this dining table beautifully by adding a grey and rose pink dining set which softens the white gloss dning table. Simple white walls allow this dining set to take centre stage and keeps the space looking bright.
This high gloss black glass top dining table looks stunning paired with the gold accessories for a very regal, modern dining room design. The white walls keep the dining room looking bright and open so that the black dining furniture doesn't overwhelm. Adding some house plants to the background adds a natural appeal to balance out the ultra-sleek and contemporary texture sof the furniture and accessories.
