Garden Parasols to Suit Any Space

Not all garden parasols work the same way, and the best choice depends on how your outdoor area is set up. Cantilever parasols hang from an offset pole, so the base sits to one side rather than in the middle of your table. Because of this, they are a strong option for shading garden dining sets or lounge sets without eating into legroom. Most of ours open with a crank handle and tilt at several angles, so you can follow the sun across the day without shifting the whole thing.

Crank-handle parasols with a central pole are the more traditional choice. They slot through the hole in the centre of a dining table and take up very little space on the ground. If your patio or balcony is on the smaller side, a central-pole parasol paired with a compact table keeps things neat. Tilting parasols, whether they're cantilever or central-pole, let you angle the canopy toward low sun in the morning or evening. If your garden faces east or west, a tilt function makes a noticeable difference to usable shade compared to a fixed canopy.

Canopy Fabric and UV Protection

Sun protection is one of the main reasons for buying a garden parasol, so the fabric is worth more than a casual glance. Our parasols for UK gardens use UV-resistant polyester canopies that block a high percentage of harmful rays, helping to reduce sun exposure on hot days. The fabric is also water-repellent, meaning a passing shower won’t send you running indoors.

Many of our canopies include a top air vent. This small opening lets warm air escape and reduces wind pressure from underneath, which keeps the parasol more stable in a breeze and the area beneath it cooler. The specific UV rating and fabric weight are noted on each product page.

Garden Parasol FAQs

Do Garden Parasols Come with a Base?

It depends on the product. Some of our garden parasols include a cross base or fillable base; others are sold as the parasol only. The product listing will confirm what’s included. If you need a base separately, check our garden accessories range for compatible options.

What Size Parasol Do I Need for My Table?

Aim for a canopy that’s at least 60–80 cm wider than the table on its longest side. For a standard four-seat dining table (around 120 cm), a 2.5 m parasol gives good coverage. Larger tables and corner sets benefit from 3 m canopies or a cantilever positioned to one side.

Can I Use a Parasol Without a Table?

Absolutely. Freestanding and cantilever parasols work well over sun loungers, corner sofas, or even a patch of lawn. Just make sure the base is weighted properly. A garden parasol that isn’t anchored to a table needs a heavier base to stay secure.

How Much Assembly Is Involved?

Most garden parasols need minimal setup. Typically, it only involves fitting the canopy onto the pole and attaching the base, which takes around 10–15 minutes. Each order includes clear instructions, but if you have any queries, get in touch with our friendly team who will be happy to help.

Will a Parasol Stay Up in the Wind?

Our parasols for UK gardens are built to handle a light to moderate breeze, and many feature vented canopies that release wind pressure rather than catching it. In stronger gusts, always close and secure the parasol. No garden parasol is designed to stay open in high winds, and doing so risks damaging the frame or canopy.

What’s the Delivery Time?

We offer free next-day delivery on orders placed before 8 pm on weekdays to mainland UK addresses. The product page will confirm expected delivery at checkout. For full details and any exclusions, see our delivery page.

Can I Return a Parasol if It’s Not Right?

Yes. Every parasol order comes with free 30-day returns. If the garden parasol doesn’t suit your space, you can send it back at no cost. Just make sure it’s in its original packaging and unused condition.
