Explore Our Full Collection of Egg Chairs

If you’re looking for outdoor seating that’s both stylish and ultra-comfortable, a garden egg chair is the perfect choice. Egg chairs are designed to cradle and cocoon you while you read, scroll, socialise, or just relax and take in the sights and sounds of the outdoors.

Most egg chairs in our range are built from weather-resistant rattan-effect materials over a steel core. They’re designed to live outdoors, so they can handle rain and UV without cracking or fading. Single seats suit smaller patios and balconies, while double egg chairs give you room to share (or stretch out).

Choose from a huge selection of colours, from neutral beiges, creams, and greys to pops of green or red. Whatever your style, you’ll find the perfect egg chair to suit your outdoor space. Browse our full garden furniture range for more seating options.

Hanging vs. Stationary Egg Chairs

Outdoor egg chairs come in two main styles: hanging and stationary. Hanging egg chairs attach to a chain, which is suspended from an overhead stand. They have a gentle swinging motion that's hard to beat for relaxation, but they need more room — both on the ground for the base and above for the arc of movement.

Measure the height from floor to any overhead cover (pergola, parasol, or roof if you're putting it on your balcony) and leave at least 30cm of clearance above the top of the chair. Don’t forget to account for swing clearance.

Stationary egg chairs sit directly on the ground and don’t move, like a garden sofa. They won’t swing or rock, so tend to feel more stable on uneven surfaces like grass or gravel. They also require less assembly, are easier to reposition if you want to move the chair around, and are often simpler to store over winter.

Egg Chair FAQs

Do Garden Egg Chairs Come With a Stand, or Do I Need to Buy One Separately?

This depends on the design. Freestanding stationary egg chairs include their own base. Hanging egg chairs in our range typically come with a stand included, but always confirm on the product page — the listing will state clearly what's included.

What's the Difference Between a Single and a Double Egg Chair?

A single egg chair is sized for one person and works well in tighter spaces like a balcony corner or a small patio. A double (sometimes called a two-seater) has a wider seat pod, so two people can sit side by side. It takes up more floor space and weighs more, but is perfect for sharing or stretching out.

How Much Space Do I Need for an Egg Chair?

For a single hanging egg chair with a stand, allow roughly 1.5m × 1.5m of floor space, plus clearance for the swing arc. Stationary models may vary depending on whether they are designed to seat one or two. Check the product dimensions for exact measurements — including the height — and remember to account for any rocking or swaying motion.

How Do I Care for My Egg Chair?

Egg chairs don’t need much maintenance. Brush off loose debris regularly and give the frame an occasional wipe-down with soapy water to keep the rattan-effect weave looking fresh.

Can I Leave My Egg Chair Outdoors All Year?

Most of our egg chairs are designed to withstand the elements, so can be left outside all year. Some even come with water-resistant covers. However, bringing your chair indoors during particularly bad weather will help keep it looking its best. Cushions should always be kept indoors when you’re not using your egg chair.

Are Egg Chair Cushions Waterproof?

Cushion fabrics vary between designs. Most are splash proof, but not fully waterproof. We'd recommend bringing cushions under cover during bad weather to keep the filling in good shape. Check the individual product listing for fabric and care details.

Can Garden Egg Chairs Be Used Indoors?

Yes! Egg chairs may be designed for outdoor spaces, but many people also use them in conservatories, bedrooms, or living rooms. Place the base on a hard floor or a protective mat to avoid marking surfaces and make sure the ceiling height works if you're using a hanging version with a tall stand.

What Weight Can an Egg Chair Support?

Maximum load ratings differ by model and are listed in the specifications on each product page. If the figure you need isn't shown, contact our customer service team and we'll look it up for you.

Do You Offer Free Delivery and Returns on Egg Chairs?

Yes. Every egg chair we sell includes free next-day delivery for orders received by 8pm on weekdays, and free 30-day returns — so if you change your mind, you can contact us for a free exchange or refund. Check our terms and conditions for full details.
