We polled over 5,000 people to find out what you think the most stylish place to live in the UK is!
We are all about design, and how normal people can make a space into something truly special. Sure, we love inspiring you all to make your dream homes a reality, but we were intrigued about bigger spaces - communities. What makes a village, a town or a city a stylish place to live?
Style is about how things look - a pleasing appearance that creates a sense of effortless harmony. When it comes to stylish places, these are the spots that artists and filmmakers flock to because they just look so good. But it's a hard thing to define and can be different for different people. So, we created a poll to ask the people of the UK to vote for the most stylish places.
Our survey panels were set up across the UK and respondents were asked to rank locations according to:
And the results are in!

Our poll showed the picturesque medieval town of Lavenham coming out on top as the UK's most stylish place to live. Lavenham is deep in the heart of ‘Constable country’ (made famous by the landscape artist John Constable) and is unique for having so many beautifully preserved medieval buildings in one place. Many of them are painted in 'Suffolk pink'. The town has been celebrated by artists for centuries and is now a popular location for movies and TV. Lavenham has been used as a filming location for Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows and was the base for the popular BBC1 show Lovejoy.
Morpeth, in Northumberland, was narrowly beaten to the top spot. Mortpeth is a historic market town known for its cobbled streets and quality local markets. The popular ITV drama Vera was recently filmed there.
All 20 places on the list would have been worthy winners and show why the UK is such a stylish country, loved by artists, filmmakers and tourists from all over the world. What's interesting is how many of the most stylish locations were not the most affluent places in their locality. Good style can be achieved whatever your budget and what marks out the UK’s most stylish places is how they all have a timeless quality achieved over generations by the stylish people living there. That same sense of style is true with furniture and having a good eye for the right piece for your home is far more important than how much money you have to spend!
